Matt Cast was a Sac City swimmer back in 2002 and 2003.  As a freshman he received the President’s Highest Honors for his performance in the classroom and was an All-American in the 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay, and the 800 free relay.  As a sophomore he was the team MVP, State’s Male Swimmer of the Year and helped the men’s team finish 4th in the State (their best finish ever).  He was also an All-American in the 200 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM.  He is the SCC record holder in the 50 free (21.75 in 2002), 100 breast (58.37 in 2002), 200 breast (2:03.66 in 2003), 100 fly (50.65 in 2003), 200 IM (1:51.56 in 2002), 400 IM (3:59.64 in 2003) and as a member of the 200 medley relay (1:38.13) and 400 medley relay (3:33.08) teams in 2002.

Prior to swimming for the Panthers, Matt was a 4 year Varsity letter in both swimming and band at Sacramento High School, while earning several All-Metro League awards and honors.  After SCC, he attended UC Davis and swam for the Aggies.  As a junior he set 5 individual records (100 fly, 200 fly, 100 breast, 200 breast, and 400 IM) and helped the team to the Pacific Collegiate Conference title and was named the Top Swimmer of the Meet.  He was named Athlete of the Year by the UCD Aggies newspaper.

Matt coached the Manor Recreation Swim Team, was Head Coach for 5 years at Cosumnes River Aquatics, and coached swimming and water polo at Monterey Trail High School for 3 years.  The Casto Award is given annually at the Davis Aquamonsters for the swimmer who “Never Settle,” which was Matt’s motto.

Matt was influenced by his SCC coach, Koren Pollack-Motekaitis and his UC Davis coach, Pete Motekaitis.  Growing up his swim coach Terry Peyton, at the Cosumnes River Aquatics center, was significant in the swimmer Matt would become.
