While attending Elk Grove High School, Pat Coffing qualified for the CIF state wrestling championships 3 times. As a senior, Pat was the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Champion and he finished third at the state tournament.  1993, after a year at Cal State Bakersfield, Pat transferred to Sac City and competed for Dave Pacheco. Despite not winning the league or Nor Cal title, Pat captured the 142 lbs. state championship and he won the North/South All-Star Match as well.  Pat transferred to Chadron State, where he placed twice at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships and qualified for the NCAA Division II national tournament as a senior.  As the wrestling coach at Elk Grove High School, Pat has led his team to 17 consecutive league championships, as well as 5 Division 1 section championships (3 dual and 2 individual), with the 2005 team finishing 3rd in the state. During Pat’s tenure, the team has a 203-24 dual meet record and the team has included 18 CIF state medalists and 2 state champions. The Sacramento Bee has named Pat the Coach of the Year on 3 occasions. Pat who teaches at Kerr Middle School, became an ordained minister in 2018.
