From 1977 to 1980, Kathy Ballinger (then Kathy Kelly) was a 3-year varsity athlete in volleyball, basketball, and softball at Davis High School, winning the school’s athlete-of-the-year award as a senior. Her multiple years of being named all-Delta League were capped off when she was named to the Sacramento Bee’s all-metro teams for basketball and softball as a senior. She then accepted a basketball scholarship to St. Mary’s College, where she competed for one season.  Kathy transferred to Sac City to play for Tim Kiernan. In her lone season for the Panthers, she was an all-league shortstop with a then school record .538 batting average (currently 5th on the Panthers all-time list). She was also voted to the all-state team, the first Panther softball player to earn this honor.  After she transferred to Sac State, the honors continued, as she was named to the all-league team as a junior in 1983. She graduated from Sac State in 1985. Currently, Kathy is a recreation manager for the City of Reno.
