Chris McMurray was a dominant center at Sacramento High School, leading the Dragons to a second place finish in the Metro League as a junior. As a senior, his 18.9 ppg was second in the league, and he was first team all-league, and first team all-city, and first team all-Northern California.  Chris enrolled at Sac City where he played for Jerry Anderson as a freshman. He led the team in scoring and was second in rebounding in being named the team co-MVP and second team all-league. His 19.9 ppg was third in the conference and he grabbed exactly 300 rebounds on the season (11.5 rpg). When the Panthers placed second in the prestigious Delta Holiday Tournament, Chris was named to the all-tournament team. His 37 points against Sierra is tied for the 5th highest total in school history.  Playing for Tom Sekul as a sophomore, Chris put up one the best seasons in SCC history. He averaged 20.9 ppg and 17.2 rpg. He became the 5th Panther to average 20 points in a season and at 20.5 ppg, he remains one of just 2 players to average 20 points for a career.  And he put up rebounding numbers that no Panther has approached: 431 for the season and 731 for his career, with 9 20-rebound games. Chris was a first team all-Valley Conference selection, was the team MVP.  Chris accepted a scholarship to San Diego State, where he posted a memorable junior season, averaging 16.1 points and 12.5 rebounds (4th in SDSU history), which was 3rd in the PCAA that season. He had season highs of 32 points and 23 rebounds (3rd in SDSU history), and he led his team in free throw percentage (78.4). Chris was named first team all-PCAA, the first SDSU player to earn that honor.  Despite not completing his senior season, Chris became one of just 2 players in the SDSU D1 era to average double figure rebounds in multiple seasons. For his career, Chris averaged 15.2 ppg (8th all time) and 11.7 rpg (2nd all time), and his 76.9 FT% is 13th in SDSU history.  After college, Chris was drafted by the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers and the ABA’s San Diego Conquistadors. He played professionally including in Mexico, France, Germany, China, Italy, and Sweden.
