Antonio Torres is named the SCC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year

The Sacramento City College 2016-17 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year . . . Antonio Torres (Baseball)

Antonio Torres helped lead the Panthers to a 2nd place finish in the Big 8 Conference and another trip to the post-season.  He is a team leader and responsible for catching one of the best pitching staffs in Northern California.  He has an on base percentage of .430 and a slugging percentage of .347.  Tony and the Panthers aren't done yet as they just completed a 2-1 series win over #13 Chabot College in the Nor-Cal Regional I Playoffs and host #9 College of Sequoias this weekend for the Nor-Cal Super Regional playoff series.

In the clinching game of that series, Torres went 3x4 at the plate and started the 8th inning rally and came around to score what would be the game-winning run for the Panthers.  Torres has committed to play baseball at NCAA Division I Long Beach State next year…the 24th Panther to do so.  He is also all set to compete with the Regina Red Sox this summer in the Western Major Baseball League (Canada's Premier Collegiate Summer League).
