
Male Athlete of the Year: Jake Guenther (Baseball)
Jake Guenther helped lead the Panthers to a 3rd place finish in the Big 8 Conference and another post-season berth (#3 seed in Nor-Cal) for the baseball team. He was recently named a 1st Team All-Big 8 Conference Selection as a first baseman. This past weekend he helped City sweep Chabot College in the Nor-Cal Regional Playoffs and will compete in the Super Regional this weekend against Fresno. He has already committed to NCAA Division I TCU (Texas Christian University) to pay baseball on a scholarship next season.
Guenther led the Panthers through the regular season with 39 walks, 46 hits, 13 doubles, 3 triples, a .35 Batting Average, a .517 on base percentage, a .527 slugging percentage, and was tied for the team lead with 41 runs scored. His 39 walks were 5th best in the state of California and as a team the Panthers had the 6th most walks in the state. In the final Big 8 Conference series of the season, Jake went 7 for 12, with a double, 3 walks, 5 runs scored and 5 RBI's to help sweep Folsom Lake and claim 3rd in conference. He had 13 games with multiple hits and finished with 4 hits (in 5 at bats) in his best single game performance.
