Santa Rosa Cruises Past Sacramento City, 12–1, Behind Wood's 4-Hit Night and Moran's Blast
Santa Rosa College showed why it's one of the top teams in the state on Tuesday afternoon, rolling past Sacramento City, 12–1, at home to improve to 33–1 overall and 18–1 in Big 8 play.
The Bear Cubs delivered a complete performance—combining dominant pitching, relentless offense, and opportunistic baserunning—to overwhelm a solid Sac City squad (21–17, 12–10), who committed four errors in the loss.
Early Pressure Sets the Tone
Santa Rosa jumped ahead early, capitalizing on a miscue in the first inning and adding another run in the second behind Cooper Wood's first of four hits. The offense found another gear in the fourth, plating three runs highlighted by Ayden Herrguth's RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Josh Martin.
Moran's Homer Sparks Midgame Surge
Sophomore outfielder Shane Moran put an exclamation point on the fifth inning with a solo home run to right, stretching the lead to 6–0. Wood followed later with his second RBI knock of the afternoon to push it to 7–0.
Giacomini Shines on the Bump
After Russel Freedheim worked two clean innings to open the game, right-hander Jordan Giacomini was electric in relief, going 6.2 innings while allowing just one run—a solo homer in the eighth by Sac City's Levi Sotomayor. Giacomini struck out eight to earn the win.
Bear Cubs Put It Away Late
Santa Rosa poured it on with a five-run eighth, featuring a 2-RBI double from Brett Neidlinger, an RBI single from Tyler Nordyke, and a fourth hit from Wood to cap a 4-for-5, 3-RBI performance.
