Coach Dewar:

Starting his 35th year of teaching and coaching, 21st year at Sacramento City College as a Professor and the Head Men’s Track and Field Coach.  Coach Dewar brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and success.  Before starting at Sacramento City College, Coach Rob was the Assistant Head Coach for both the Men’s and Women’s teams and Recruiting Coordinator for the University of California, Davis for 8 years.   Before joining UC Davis in 1996, Coach Rob was the Sprints and Jumps Coach at CSU Stanislaus for 7 years.

Coach Dewar has coached 89 National Junior College All-Americans, 117 Conference Champions, 30 Nor Cal Champions, 11 Junior College Champions, 83 School Record Holders, and 16 Conference Championship Team Titles (JC and NCAA), 4 Nor Cal Championship Team Titles, and 1 California Community College State Championship, only one since 1942 and numerous teams placing in the top five at the State Championships, while maintaining a 90% Graduation and Transfer rate of his student-athletes in his 21 years as the Head Coach at Sacramento City College.  

A native of Pasadena, California, Coach Dewar graduated from Alta Loma High School.   Where he was an All Prep sprinter and school recorder holder in 100 and 200m, as well as a wide receiver and free safety for the football team as well.

Coach Dewar spent his first two seasons at Mount San Antonio College (Mt Sac) in Walnut, California, before transferring to CSU Stanislaus.  He earned NCAA All-American honors at CSU Stanislaus, 2nd in the 4 x 100m, 9th 4 x 400m before earning his bachelor degree in 1992.

Dewar has an Associate of Arts Degree from Mount San Antonio College (1987), a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Physical Education, minor in Recreation from CSU Stanislaus (1992) and Masters Business Administration (MBA) and Organizational Management from University of Phoenix (2000). 

Coach Dewar has served as the Competition Crew Chief for the 2000 and 2004 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, 2005, 2006, 2007 NCAA Division I National Track and Field Championships, U.S. National Championships 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019.  He was the Big 8 Track and Field/Cross Country Conference Chair from 2008-2018, President and Vice President of the California Community College Track and Field/Cross Country Association, 2010-2016, Northern California Chair Rules Committee 2015-Present, President and former Vice President of the California Community College Coaches Association (4CA) and Management Council 2016-2023.   Named to the Committee for the Senate Bill 206 for Student-Athletes Name, Image, and Likeness May 2020 to June 2021. 

Coach Rob is single and resides in Sacramento with his relay team of four sons:  Ryland David (21) Junior at Oklahoma State, Trenton Robert (18) Freshman at Chapman University, Alexander John - AJ (16) and Colton Jeffery - C-Man (14).
