The Sacramento City Softball NorCal No. 3 came within game of achieving their goal of winning a state championship this weekend. The Panthers on Friday defeated Cypress 2-0 and also went on Saturday to defeat #1 NorCal San Mateo 7-6.
In the state finals Sac City in Game 1 lost 7-4 against Santiago Canyon. City finished with 9 hits and 2 errors in the game. The Panthers were led by Fr 1B (#20) Gabby Ortiz went 2-3 with a homerun 2 RBI with 1 run scored. Fr RF (#2) Catie Gravel 2-4 with 2 runs scored. So C (#13) Kaitlyn Leffle went 2-4 with 1 run scored.
In Game 2 the Panthers were defeated 8-0 in 5 innings with Santiago Canyon jumping out to a 5-5-0 in the first inning. City had 7 hits in the game but were unable to score runs. Both Fr 1B (#20) Gabby Ortiz and So 2B (#4) Madison Butcoff were each 2-3. So 3B / P (#16) Jostyn Bebout and Fr SS (#9) Katie Lopez and So C (#13) Kaitlyn Leffle all went 1-2 for 2 as well. Congratulations on a wonderful season in which you finished 2nd in the CCCAA State Championships. Several Sac City student athletes were named to CCCAA Softball All-Tournament Team.
