Sacramento City Panthers Women's basketball (4-7, 1-0) faced off against the Modesto Pirates (7-4, 0-1) and came out on top with a 45-28 win. The duo tonight of Brandy Huffhines and Kelsie Graf combined for 28 points or 62% of the teams scoring. It was a tightly contested game going into halftime, as the Panthers only led 19-18 despite having a solid first quarter and leading by nine at one point in the second quarter.
The Panthers eventually would go on a nice run offensively, but it wasn't until the fourth quarter where they showcased a dominant defense against Modesto. They held the Pirates scoreless for 8 minutes and held them to just 2 points total in the entire fourth quarter. Despite challenges early with containing Pirates forward Akaysha Simpkins (who led the team with 15 points) and her mid range jumpers through the first three quarters, she was held scoreless in the fourth by a sothering Panthers defense.
The Panthers will next face off against San Joaquin Delta on Friday December, 29th @ 5:30PM.
