The Panthers are the North Region Runner-Ups
Sacramento City College wrestling traveled to Susanville and competed in the North Regional Tournament.  The Panthers finished second to the powerful Fresno City College team currently ranked number one in the state.  SCC moved up from 4th to 3rd in the newest State Rankings after the Regionals in the North and South were complete.
 
SCC qualified 10 wrestlers to the state meet this week at Delta College in Stockton.  Two other Panthers received alternate positions and could compete if someone is hurt or cannot attend the state meet.
 
Leading the charge for Sacramento City was Robert Nickerson who finished in first place in 197 lb. division.  Robert Nickerson, the #1 seed, had a first round bye, then defeated teammate Daniel Warden by a 4-3 score in the semifinal.  He met Marcus Macias, the #2 seed in the finals.  After Robert Nickerson took a 5 point lead early in the third round, Macias succumbed to an injury and defaulted out.
 
 
Three other Panthers finished second place Morgan Sauseda at 125 lbs., Isaac Bertolotto at 165 lb. and Abel Garcia at 174 lbs.
 
The North had the top 3 ranked wrestlers in the state going into the meet at 125.  Morgan Sauseda, ranked #2 in the state,  earned a pin in his first match, then decisioned #3 state ranked Greg Viloria of Delta College, 5-0.  He lost a hard fought final to #1 ranked Brandon Betancourt of Fresno in the final by a 7-2 margin.
 
Isaac Bertolotto, the #2 seed, scored 2 falls and a decision to reach the final. He lost to #1 ranked Victor Vargas of Fresno in the final.
 
Abel Garcia, ranked #3 in the state, had a bye, a fall and a decision on the way to the finals.  He lost a physical match up with #2 ranked in the state Anthony Cress of Chabot.
 
Robert Sillas finished in third place at 184 lb.  Robert Sillas had a bye and a fall, but was upset in the semi-final match by Dylan Krancich of Delta.  He came back with another fall and a 4-3 decision over Jay Johnson of Fresno City to get 3rd place.
 
Trevor Mattox finished in fourth place at 133 lbs. He went 2-2 on the day including 2 wins by fall.
 
Jason Stokkeland (149), Brian Horn(165), and Daniel Warden (197) all finished in 5th place. Stokkeland went 4-2 on the day with 2 falls. That moves his team lead in falls to 21.  Horn went 2-2 on the day with a fall and a major decision.  Warden also went 2-2 on the day including a fall.
 
Dylan Crawford (157) and Salvatore Pochiero (141) both finished in sixth place.  Salvatore Pochiero lost his true sixth match and is now an alternate. Beau Medicine Crow (285) pinned his opponent to finish seventh, his second pin of the day and is also an alternate to the state meet.
