Hartnell Tops Sac City 3–1 Behind Hoover's Two-Way Performance
Salinas, CA — Hartnell College made the most of a three-run third inning and another standout outing from Charlee Hoover to defeat Sacramento City College 3–1 on Saturday, earning a split in the two-game series.
With the win, Hartnell improves to 25-14-1, while Sacramento City drops to 28-13 overall.
Hoover Does It Again Just one day after leading Hartnell to a comeback win, Charlee Hoover delivered another clutch performance—this time both in the circle and at the plate. The sophomore tossed a complete game, scattering four hits while striking out six and allowing just one run to earn her 14th win of the season.
She also helped her own cause in the third inning, driving in a run with an RBI single as part of a three-run outburst that proved to be the difference in the game.
Panthers Capitalize on Mistakes After Alexandra Lopez led off the third with a single and came around to score on a defensive miscue, Hartnell kept the pressure on. Kalea De Leon reached on an error that brought in a run, and Hoover followed with a sharp RBI single. Malaya Carrillo capped the rally with a base hit to score Hoover, giving Hartnell a 3–0 lead.
Sac City's Rally Falls Short Sacramento City tried to mount a comeback in the fourth when Chloe Kimbrell singled and scored on a Kayla Garber double. But Hoover shut the door from there, retiring the final nine batters she faced to seal the victory.
Iliana Cano provided strong relief for Sac City, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and only two hits allowed.
