Women's Wrestling places 4th out of 13 teams at the 3C2A State Championships, hosted at Sac City. Serrano, Saleh and Chavez earn All-Americans status.

The 2nd-ever Community College Women's State Championships were hosted by Sac City this past weekend and it was a day to remember for Panthers. The home team qualified six wrestlers for the tournament and all six scored points towards the cumulative team score. The Panthers scored 81.5 points, edging out rival Fresno City College (80 points) for 4th place and became the highest-placing team in the event from Northern California. Cerritos College won the team championship, followed by Mt. San Antonio College in 2nd place, and East Los Angeles College in 3rd place.

Individually, Atziry Chavez (Cordova HS) led the way for the Panthers winning three matches by fall earning a spot in the 220 pound finals, where she was defeated by two-time state champion Izzy Calle from East Los Angeles College By virtue of a top-three finish at her weight class, Chavez earned All-American status. Lily Serrano (109) and Ibtasam Saleh (136) also earned All-American status by placing 3rd place in their weight classes. Alexis Hazelton (102) and Andrea Espinosa (148) each finished 4th place in their weight classes. Jessie Adame finished 2-2 at 220.

"It was a great day for us as a program," said Head Coach Marques Gales. "It's always nice to see your athletes perform their best at the end of the season and it was clear that we peaked at the right time. All six wrestlers won at least two matches each. Ibtasam Saleh and Andrea Espinosa beat opponents that they lost to multiple times in the regular season to put them in the 3rd place matches of their weight classes. Lexi Hazelton has battled through an injury-plagued season and was able to put together the best performance of her college career. Jessie Adame has gained a lot of confidence over the past month or so and was able to pin a tough opponent from Cerritos. Lily Serrano came from behind in each of her last two matches to secure 3rd place while Atziry Chavez dominated her way to the finals with three wins by pin."

The Panthers Women's Wrestling team will be an official intercollegiate program supported by the Kinesiology, Health, and Athletics division during the 2024-2025 School year.
