Female (October) Athlete of the Month - Maritza Tellez (Women's Cross Country)
Sophomore, Maritza Tellez has been running with the leaders all season long, and she finally came out on top with a 1st place finish at the Pat Ryan Invitational. She finished 50 seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher in that race to wrap up her October schedule. Earlier in the month, Tellez competed locally at the Urban Cow held at William Land Park. In that race she finished 16th overall, was 4th place in the female division and the 1st female finisher in her age group. Post-season competition begins next month as Tellez will compete in the Big 8 Championship, Nor-Cal Championship and hopes to earn a berth in the State Championship.
Male (October) Athlete of the Month - Jacob Hiller (Wrestling)
Jacob Hiller, a sophomore from Chico, started the month of October off with a 4th place finish at 133 pounds at the Santa Ana Tournament. Hiller would lose by decision at 125 lbs. against Lassen in his next match before bouncing back to rattle off 5 straight wins. Four of those 5 wins came at the Simpson Duals against 4-year competition. Jacob recorded to WBF wins over Grays Harbor College and Team X. He then won by decision against Eastern Oregon University and another WBF in his match against Warner Pacific University. Congratulations to Ryan Costeiu for committing to the University of Arkansas to continue his baseball career. Costeiu committed on September 28th (during the early signing period) as he is preparing for his sophomore season with the Panthers!
