Former Panther Brandy Huffhines is selected as the CCCAA Female Scholar Athlete of the Year

Former Panther Brandy Huffhines, a student-athlete on our Women's basketball team last year, has been named as the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) 2018-2019 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year!

It is the highest honor that the CCCAA awards to scholar-athletes, as there is just one female winner and one male winner, out of the 24,000+ student-athletes that annually participate in California Community College athletics.

Brandy was at SCC from 2017-2019, graduated with highest honors and a degree in Biology, along with a perfect 4.0 GPA.  Athletically, Brandy was the team captain both of her years and started every game of her career at SCC.  Brandy was named to the CCCWBCA Academic All-State team, was a 1st Team All-Big 8 Conference selection and a 3rd Team All-State Selection.  She is currently on a basketball scholarship at California State University Northridge, where she is studying for a career in the Medical field.

Brandy will be honored at the 2020 CCCAA Celebration of Scholar-Athlete's Luncheon, to be held in conjunction with the annual CCCAA convention in Ontario, CA, on Wednesday, April 1.

It should be noted that this is the third time in the past seven years that a SCC student-athlete has won the CCCAA's highest award.  Brandy follows in the footsteps of baseball student-athlete, Dan Sayles ('12-'13), and football student-athlete, Anthony Berkavatz ('14-'15), who both won the CCCAA Male scholar-athlete of the year.

Congratulations to Brandy, our Kinesiology, Health and Athletics faculty and staff, and our SCC community for establishing a culture of student success!
