Longtime former track assistant coach, Joe Silva, passes away

Coach Joe Silva, the sprint and relay coach for SCC track and field teams from the 1970s to the late 1990s, passed away on January 7, 2022.

As an assistant to men's head coaches George Larsen and Bob Lanza, as well as women's head coaches Larsen, Tamara Cosentino, and Karen Kunimura, Coach Silva mentored numerous individuals and relay teams that won league and state championships, set school, state, and national records, and matriculated to compete at 4-year institutions. The Express contains numerous articles about several athletes who specifically point to Coach Silva as the key to their success.

A service for Coach Silva, whose son (Scott) and daughter (Michelle) competed for the Panthers, will take place on Thursday, January 20 at 11:00 am at the Good Shepard Catholic Church in Elk Grove.
