"COACH JULZ" SEASON RECAP "WE ARE PANTHERS"

"COACH JULZ" SEASON RECAP "WE ARE PANTHERS"

We Are Panthers

Julia Allender "Coach Julz", in her second season established a culture change within the basketball program at Sac City that have been the hallmarks of her coaching career. Some of the key factors in this culture change were; to demand players to commit to improving daily, establishing players goals, getting each player to be willing to be adaptable to learning new skill sets, creating a team first mindsets, getting players to respect their academics as much as the game of basketball and that her coaching staff be relentless in the pursuit of developing players to their maximum potential. The results of this culture change was a team that worked extremely hard, were gritty, and highly competitive student-athletes that exceled at making winning plays all year on the basketball floor.

The Panthers this season finished with 22 wins the most since joining the Big 8 surpassing the 17 wins totals in 2001-02 season, when SCC was a member of the Bay Valley Conference - Valley Division.  "Coach Julz" led the team this season to victories over previous state champs and perennial playoff teams Chabot (2), Delta (2) CCSF, and DVC (2). Sac City was also ranked in the top 5 of Northern California, and finished tied for second in the Big 8, its best mark in Big 8 conference history at 9-5.

A testament to the winning style of play was that Sacramento City finished second in the state as a team in 3 point shooting at 36.8 %, and third in the state in 3 point baskets made (289), had 4 players in the top 10 in the Big 8 in 3 point % (C. Tacardon 39.5%, J. Bernardo 38.8, J. Lauderdale 38.5, A. Reese 31.4%), led the Big 8 in 3pt's made with 289 and were second in state with 9 3 point baskets made per game.

"Coach Julz" was extremely proud of her coaching staff because, "I feel like we squeezed every ounce from every player we had and each player got significantly better. All of our players finished the season playing their best basketball of their careers."

Sacramento City Women's Basketball goal as a program for individuals is to develop and move players to the four-year level on a basketball scholarship where they can be impact players.  As a team it is to earn a playoff spot each year and to become a threat to win a state championship.

We are seeking student-athletes that want to achieve excellence in the classroom and want to pursue playing collegiate basketball on athletic scholarship.  A new era of Sac City basketball has begun where young women of great character can be assured to maximize their potential as student-athletes as a member of the SCC W. Basketball Program. Seize this wonderful opportunity to be part of something special and historic.
