Panthers start slow, but finish strong to beat Modesto 65-45 on Friday night

The Panthers played their 16th game of the season and their first home game on Friday night as they hosted Modesto in a Big 8 Conference game.  The Pirates started fast, making 4 three-pointers in the 1st quarter and led City 22-13.  City's defense tightened up in the 2nd quarter and the Pirates struggled from the field as SCC closed the gap and only trailed 27-23 at the half.

In the 2nd half, the Panthers offense started to roll and shots began to fall as they outscored the Pirates 22-14.  The Panthers knocked down 5 long balls, led Isabelle Beaven with 9 points coming behind the arc.  In the 4th quarter the Panthers stayed hot and knocked down 4 more three-pointers and outscored Modesto 20-4 as City won their first Big 8 conference game 65-45.

Jessica Lauderdale led all Panthers with 19 points, 11 coming in the 2nd half.  Isabelle Beaven scored 15 points on 5 three-pointers and Kayley Cravens had 12 points, including 2 from behind the arc.

The Panthers look to stay hot on Tuesday, when they host Cosumnes River College at 7:30pm in another Big 8 Conference match-up.
