Sacramento City Defeats Monterey Peninsula 6-1

Sacramento City took control early and never looked back, defeating Monterey Peninsula 6-1 in their February 8, 2025 non=conference game. The game featured a strong offensive start and solid pitching from Sacramento City, who improved to 5-1 on the season.

Early Offense Powers Sacramento City to an Early Lead

Sacramento City wasted no time, scoring four runs in the first inning. The scoring began with Amanda Royal's RBI single that brought home Chloe Kimbrell, who had reached base with a stolen base. Kimbrell's speed proved valuable, as she also scored later in the inning on an error by Monterey Peninsula's centerfielder. The inning continued with Kayla Garber's double, which, aided by another error, scored two more runs. Sacramento City took a commanding 4-0 lead after just one frame.

Monterey Peninsula Strikes Back, But Sacramento City Holds Firm

Monterey Peninsula got on the board in the fourth inning when Ky Dahle grounded out to third, allowing Ortiz Samantha to score. However, it was the only run for Monterey Peninsula as Sacramento City's pitching kept them in check for the rest of the game.

Sacramento City Adds Insurance Runs

In the fifth inning, Sacramento City tacked on another unearned run when Ava Seguin, after reaching on an error, advanced around the bases and came home on a second error. In the sixth, Jenna Potter capped off the scoring with an RBI double that brought Kimbrell across the plate, extending the lead to 6-1.

Pitching Shines for Sacramento City

Ava Seguin (3-0) delivered another strong performance, going the full 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out five. Iliana Cano closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning, adding one strikeout to secure the win.

Monterey Peninsula Struggles at the Plate

Monterey Peninsula's offense was held to just four hits throughout the game. Amelia Visesio (2-3) took the loss, giving up five runs (two earned) in 5.0 innings. Sydney Smith pitched one inning of relief, allowing one more unearned run.
