Cosumnes River Capitalizes on Errors to Defeat Sacramento City, 6–2
Cosumnes River used a combination of opportunistic offense and solid pitching to top Sacramento City 6–2 on April 5, 2025, at home. The Hawks took advantage of four Panther errors and timely hits in the middle innings to pull away for their first win of the season.
Pitching Duel Early, Offense Heats Up in the Middle Innings
Both teams were quiet through the first two frames before Cosumnes River broke through in the third inning with an RBI double by Ariana Fuentes, scoring Abigail Woodfill. Sacramento City tied it up in the top of the fourth with a Kayla Garber RBI double, but the Hawks quickly responded.
In the bottom of the fourth, Cosumnes River plated two more runs on RBI singles from Bella Harpster and Woodfill, reclaiming the lead at 3–1.
Big Fifth Inning Extends Cosumnes River Lead
Sac City cut the deficit to one in the fifth on Madelynn Flores' RBI single that scored Kayla Leone. But defensive miscues haunted the Panthers again in the bottom half. The Hawks answered with three more runs, including an RBI fielder's choice from Mariah Hopkins, a heads-up steal and score by Charlize Fasula, and a run-scoring grounder from Marissa Alders to push the lead to 6–2.
Alders Shines in the Circle
Marissa Alders went the distance for Cosumnes River, tossing a complete-game four-hitter. She allowed just one earned run, walked one, and struck out three over seven efficient innings.
